Lowery Memorial Shuttle Run

Date: September 11th, 2010
Start Time: 8am
End Time: 4pm

Rules and Regulations

  1. Racers may compete as a team or as solo participants. Team entries must race together, this is not a relay.
  2. The object of the event is to complete as many circuits or laps as possible in the 8 hour allotted time frame.
  3. One circuit/lap is completed when the racer checks into TA1. In addition to arriving at TA1, racers will be scored on the number of visits to designated CPs.
    • Racers leave the Start Area (TA1) and proceed via boat to the end of the paddle section (TA2) where they transition to trekking.
    • Racers travel in a clockwise direction on back to TA1, no travel on pavement is permitted. For additional points, racers may retrieve a CP along the way. Once the racer checks into TA1 it is counted as one lap; an additional point is available if the CP on the trek/bike section is also retrieved.
    • Racers will now leave TA1 on their bikes and travel in a counter clockwise direction back to TA2 where they will stash their bikes and transition back to their boat for a paddle to TA1. Once the racer arrives at TA1 it is counted as a second lap; an additional point is available if the CP is also retrieved on the return trek/bike section.
  4. Travel on paved roads is not permitted except for a small section near TA2 and within Woolastook Park.
  5. Participants must let the volunteer/staff at TA1 know when they are leaving the course.
  6. No motorized transport of any kind permitted.
  7. No gear stashing on course.
  8. Trek sections must be completed on foot only.

NSAR Twist – The CP that racers will be retrieving on the bike/trek section of the course, will be a moving CP. This means that every two hours the active CP will change and the expired CP will be removed from the course. This will be accomplished by two event staff; one will remove the punch from the CP that is expiring while the second volunteer is hanging the punch on the active control. This will add an element of planning to each lap so ensure you have enough time to arrive at the active CP before it is moved.

Example: CP1 will be active from 8am to 10am. At 10:00am the CP will be taken down and racers will be required to re-route to CP2 which will be active from 10:00am to 12:00pm.

Why not simply punch my card multiple times per lap? The volunteer at TA1 will be checking your score card to ensure you do not have punches in boxes for laps you have yet to complete; they will also mark an “X” in the boxes for punches you have missed.

Example: Lap One – The racer visits TA1 but misses the CP….the volunteer will punch the box for the TA1 visit and mark an “X” in the box for the CP next to lap one, so that it will not be counted.

Scoring – The winner will be determined by the person or team that visits TA1 and each CP the most times.  Each TA1 visit and each CP visit is worth one point.

Map – Blue dotted line represents a potential paddle route
Orange dotted line represents a potential trek/bike route. The map showing the locations of the four CPs will be provided on race day, travel routes may change accordingly.
